Gimp Books
I have linked here a couple of books about Gimp that I think
are good. Note that my opinions are highly subjective, but I
think these would make good reading if you want to learn more
about Gimp. Looks like there are new books popping up every day,
and to keep up with the most recent news, you might want to
follow Gimp News.

Grokking the Gimp
This is a book by Carey Bunks
and it looks very nice. It is totally full color printed, and
the author has some very nice examples of real-life
image manipulation and color correction work covered in
step-by-step manner. This and the Gimp Users Manual should
give you nice understanding of the work with Gimp.
I did the cover image for this book.

Gimp - Essential Reference
Alex Halford's book covers quite a bit of the instructions
how to install the Gimp to your computer system, be it GNU/Linux
or some other flavour of unix.
The book also has a tutorial about writing Script-Fu scripts
and it contains a Script-Fu function reference with explanation
about each function.

The Gimp - Visual Quickstart Guide
A book by Phyllis Davis, is a visual guide that
tries to avoid long explanations, but rather tries to get you
right into working on things with Gimp.
This book contains 2 images of mine in the "Gallery"
section.

The Official Gimp Users Manual
This is the book by Karin and Olof
Kylander. Karin is a graphics designer, and Olof is a gimp
developer. The page contains around 1000 pages and it is
very comprehensive. There is also a
online version available.

Teach Yourself Gimp in 24 hours
Ok, I havent looked much onto this, but from the skimming of it
in the bookstore I can say it should be helpful in getting a
grasp in how things work in Gimp. More like a quick-start guide
that should be useful to get things done.
|

Artist's Guide to The Gimp
Michael J. Hammel's book. It was the first one ever about Gimp.
It is also in full color which is a definite plus for this kind
of book. Definitely worth a look too.

I decided to remove the links to Amazon.com because of
their patent and lawsuit to restrict the use of a trivial
technique to identify a customer with a http-cookie. I
personally think this is just silly.
Go here for more
details. So, feel free to buy the books from fatbrain.com
or somewhere else instead.
Please note that I am not getting paid by these publishing
companies or something like that in any way. The book
links are here just as a resource to point new users to when
questions about books arise. The order the books are presented in
this page is also just random, dont take it as a ranking.
