Design for maemo website

We’re working on a decent frontpage for www.maemo.org, to put the new site framework into use. Feedback is welcome and very much appreciated.

    It’s always difficult to evaluate a static images of UIs, so most of these points could be moot. Here goes anyway:

    * Looks good overall
    * The banner “open source development … code in your hands” is IMO too big, especially if it’s visible on all sub-pages of the developer section. I’d probably remove the last line if it doesn’t serve a specific purpose.
    * garage side bar could have an outline or background color like “Tablet User?” does.
    * I assume top-level “documentation” and “developers->documentation” are different things?
    * There is a login entry in the corner: I hope this means a combined login for midgard/bugzilla/garage?
    * Planet is no longer in the top level menu — I assume it’s under “Community”. I guess this is fine if it’s prominently displayed there…
    * Including high visibility links to outside of maemo.org, as you did in the image, is a very good idea — I think maemo/IT community is large enough to have several major sites and cross-linking is a win-win.
    * News seems to be Garage news — maybe that should be mentioned? Not sure about this one…

    Jussi: Just a quick note: this is just for the main page, the banner would not be on every page of course.

    Also my menu structure is old - its just a mockup. not a real screenshot. So menu items have changed since.

    If you’re going to redesign the maemo website, I would suggest to make it a bit more “device-centric”. Have a section for the N770, N800, (potentially even non-nokia maemo devices), and show the available documents, applications, utilities, images, specific for that device. Right now it’s a bit of a pain to figure out what’s what.
