iPod and Ubuntu Edgy
If you decided to give the heck on what Steve says on his keynote soon, and got a nice iPod nano, and horror of horrors, Linux doesnt make it work out of the box immediately like it does for the older iPods, check out this patch and instructions to build yourself a new HAL.

If you don’t want/know how to create a new package, you can also use the instructions available at: http://yimports.com/~cpinto/2006/12/28/banshee-and-ipod-nano-4g/

Also, someone has put up patched binary debs for Edgy here:

That won’t actually work. Instead, there are correct instructions on the Ubuntu forums, along with a set of .deb packages that someone else made.

That actually did work. But if you know a better way (eventually this probably gets fixed in the distro itself too) - let us know a link.

My shiny new nano 2nd gen works plug any play on all my edgies, not sure what you mean. It gets mounted, even rhytmbox (god, why is that still in there) starts automatically. I actually use amarok for managing it, perfect.

This was the 8GB version, perhaps yours is a different model and they work? I think it has a non-standard partition table which was the problem.

Just for the record, mine is the 8GB black version aswell. Of course there might be different versions of that one too..

Yeah. Strange. In any case, perhaps the patch got backported in the meanwhile anyway?
