Gee, I wonder…
You’d think most blogs have a “post has more than n links => I think this is spam!” -filtering now and the morons wouldn’t bother, but I was wrong..

Hmm.. My dear reader has a lot of interesting links to offer me..!

I use Akismet to block spam in Wordpress. Up till now it has blocked all (~500) spam comments.

I hate those comment spamers, I had them in my blog and they flowed similar stuf into it, but hundreds and hendreds of times. I deleted as soon as I saw, witch I am not sure if it was soon enougth. i’m not sure if google has come between the spamer and the deletion I did later.
I made a kaptcha for my blog that asks a multiple answer question in portuguese and requires you to type two selected letters from the answer to allow your answer. The question is selected randomly in the format “witch of those are _____” or “witch of those aren’t ______” where the blank is filled with one category of a database. the selected answers are always randomized.
So the spammer would have to read the data, guess the correct answer and select the correct letters. It is a bit harder then I wished for a human to “play”, but once you get used to it it get quicker. It also could be easily extended to a speech also, for the disabled also.

Tigert, install Spam Karma 2! I’ve been using it for a year+ and it’s caught over 66,000 pieces of blog spam. False-positives are extremely rare.

don’t tell me you haven’t installed Spam Karma 2?

Yeah, I have a kaptcha and those don’t get through. But sometimes they get caught in the moderation queue. This must have been someone filling it by hand since the kaptcha should prevent robots.. Sigh. People should do something more fun with their life than submitting blog spam all day.. pretty pathetic.

Tuomas, I’ve been using Spam Karma 2 for a little less than a year, and it’s caught over 67,000 pieces of spam as of this comment. Pretty amazing considering the fairly low amount of traffic I see.
You should really give a try. Very, very few false-positives. I’ve witnessed one and that’s it. It’s very customizable too on how aggressively it attacks comment spam.

I dont’t have a spam problem on my blog really. I use a kaptcha which blocks most of them anyway. Spam karma looks interesting but it is not free software in the freedom sense, and I don’t see this as so huge problem at least yet.. thus no need.

Is there a more convenient way to email you other than through all this confusion?
