I managed to download and install Fennec (once I realised our firewall blocks FTP) but I got it running only as root.

There is only one version of Firefox mobile (Fennec) for Maemo. The same package will install on the N810 and N900.

An install link for Fennec beta 4 for Maemo can be found in the release notes:

Beta 5 is due out in about a week from now.

It is slower than MicroB by large margin.

Yes, it says nightly but there are files that at least _seem_ to be beta 5.
