Firefox for maemo..?

So planet maemo is having a nice breeze about Fennec for N900. Nice youtube video and all.

But: dear friends, where the heck is the latest packaged version? I would like to try t out on my N900.

I tried googling, and found fennec for N810/N800 and some wikipages which I wasnt sure which version they talked about... I am left with this uncertainty, as I am not a Mozilla project insider. It would be nice if the video and blog posts would include a nice url. Maybe there is a website with all this info, but I, as a potentially interested person, havent found it..

So, where can people find it?

  1. Yes, but this points to the Maemo4 version (N810, N800)

  2. My Guess will be http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/
There you have some deb packages for the armel architecture that I guess are the packages for Maemo 5

  3. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/ perhaps?
Yes, it says nightly but there are files that at least _seem_ to be beta 5.

  4. http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fennec/1.0b4/releasenotes/ — was released for a while, I didn’t see any update since then.

It is slower than MicroB by large margin.

  5. Same version works also on n900.

  6. There is only one version of Firefox mobile (Fennec) for Maemo. The same package will install on the N810 and N900.

An install link for Fennec beta 4 for Maemo can be found in the release notes:
    http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fennec/1.0b4/releasenotes/

Beta 5 is due out in about a week from now.

Nightly deb packages can be found here:
    http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/latest-mobile-1.9.2/

  7. Hello,

There is a link in the release notes page:
    http://www.mozilla.org/projects/fennec/1.0b4/releasenotes/

  8. I managed to download and install Fennec (once I realised our firewall blocks FTP) but I got it running only as root.

  9. It doesnt seem to be optified :( wont fit on my n900 ……

  10. Okay, so I was just confused by the “chinook” in the repository, as that’s the old maemo release. Good to know that my worry was just unnecessary.
