End of one email address

As of yesterday, tigert@gimp.org is no longer working. It was probably on every possible spam list there is. I do not particularly enjoy reading spam in korean anyway, so I asked yosh to just kill the address altogether. Sad - but I was probably missing 99% of legit mail sent to me due to the spam anyway.

(yes, I do use spamassassin, but when you get ~1000 spams every day, even those that do get through are too much)

Clever people can figure out my address with some guesswork, and sadly, due to many old mailing list archive programs still in use, whatever I use on the community stuff will end up in spambots soon anyway since it will be on the web in nice mailto-links.. :-(

Email is getting old anyway.. its the equivalent of fax (especially when people send attachments back and forth) - there needs to be better ways for a community to communicate.

Tango UI for web?

So I Inkscaped again a bit today.

This is a mockup of a new admin-interface ("Aegir 2") for Midgard CMS.

Midgard admin interface mockup

The mockup uses Tango colours and icons, which is an interesting use for the cross-platform theme. The èxample shows a new access control list editor for an example folder - the user interface was very much influenced by the file permissions UI of Nautilus.

Tango style makes a nice web toolkit too - maybe we should supply a set of XHTML/CSS pieces - especially since more and more apps are also dealing with web services - it's good if the web tools could benefit from the same consistency as well!

Oops! - I just realized we forgot the widget to add new groups on the list :-) Duh.. will need to fix that of course..

Update 2 - I realized I forgot the tool to add a new group/user on the ruleset. This would be a small nice AJAX-based search field that does search as you type. I think it needs a "add" button still, but something like thae above..

Denim – the User interface prototyping tool

Passed along by Henri of Midgard CMS fame: Denim seems very neat.

Basically it's a java-based website protyping tool where you can use a wacom tablet or such, to sketch a basic content layout and it makes a semi-working prototype to play with the navigation.

Now, this is very very interesting also for non-web user interface design: sketch a UI, play with it and perhaps even test it with a bunch of test people, all with no programming required at this stage, and it might be a lot nicer than paper prototypes. Need to check that out soon.

Looking back, and forth, and left, and right… my head spins.. :-)

Michael, it sure was an interesting 5 years or so.. I bought a Coopers today for that :-)

It was fun, sometimes sad, lots of work and very interesting time, to watch the Linux desktop learning to walk. Amazing ride without a doubt. Thanks. And I'm looking forward for what's next. Need to think and be quiet for a while so I am sure to go on the right direction. I hope to do some tango steps along the way (since it is a project with a lot of sense) but we'll have to see what else lies ahead. If you have ideas or pointers, poke me. tigert at tigert dot com for example.

I'll miss the coworkers, but hopefully I can stay close to the community. Wish me luck..

D100

Hubert, isnt it pretty crazy to think that the Nikon D100 first became available in 2002?

I am totally in love with mine. I am eyeing the D200 with great interest, but right now I have really no reason to upgrade yet, this is a lovely camera. I just went past 20000 shots.. crazy..
